He had played well up until that point. The goal had made it a 4-3 game for the Hounds with 6 minutes left. The significance of the play is not the goal, although one doesn't see that too often, but it is how he responded to the mistake. On the next play he confidently went out to play the puck; he didn't shrink into his net. He played with confidence and made sure the Colts didn't get the equalizer.

Coach Sheldon Keefe, tongue in cheek, commented, "Great own goal by our goalie Brandon Halverson tonight. Post and in to help us get some much needed extra work on protecting one goal leads…" He followed up by saying, "To be serious though, Halvy was our best player tonight and gets a mulligan on this one."

Halverson himself had fun with the gaff: "I have always wanted to score a goal so badly. Well i got my wish tonight. Just put it in the wrong net." He then tweeted to Canada's main sports provider TSN, "Worst play of the day? There is no way anyone is beating me. Ill just take the TSN worst play of the year right now."

As Jon Elkin often says to his students, mistakes will happen. What is important is how one responds after making an error. This was a great example of how to react.
