Hockey Goalie School: Tips & Training for Ice Hockey Goalies

Smith, Sanford, Peters, Cann

Monday night Mike Smith was very good in a 4-3 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Like any successful goalie, he bounced back after getting pulled on 4 first period goals versus Philidelphia two nights before. Smitty provided solid goaltending and effective puckhandling early on helping his team storm out to a 3-0 lead. The talented Blackhawks then chipped away and eventually tying up the score pushing the match into a shootout where Mike took charge aggressively stopping two of the world's top players - Toews and Hossa.

In the AHL, two Jon Elkin's Goalie Schools' students, Justin Peters and Trevor Cann played each other with Cann and the Lake Erie Monsters prevailing 2-1 over Justin's Charlotte Checkers. Both goalies were tough to beat. Cann stopped 32 of 33 and was the game's second star. Peters thwarted 34 of 36 shots and was third star.

Tuesday night saw Curtis Sanford get his second consecutive shootout victory at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
