Smith Stellar in shootout loss

2-1 NYR

Mike Smith put forth a valiant effort as his Phoenix Coyotes were outshot 32 to 19 Tuesday night in New York. The only goal to beat him was a deflection on a shot from the slot. Smith was both steady and spectacular all night. With just over a minute to go, Marian Gaborik was awarded a penalty shot with the game tied at 1. Gaborik faked, got Mike to bite and had an open net on his forehand.

Smitty was not going to accept defeat though and dove back stopping the puck with the shaft of his stick:

Unfortunately, the Rangers won in the shootout, but only after 12 shooters had taken part. For the third game in a row Smith was awarded one of the three stars.
