Smith takes Toronto

Mike Smith stopped 35 shots to win 3-2 in a shootout against the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday night in Toronto. It was Smitty's 6th victory in his last 7 games.

Mike made it look easy with small, simple adjustments that kept him square to the puck all night long. In the shootout he stymied leading scorer Phil Kessel coming out aggressively and battling in his face taking away the time and space of the shooter. Patrick O'Sullivan finished the Leafs off with his trademark blocker side quick release over the pad, a move that has left many Jon Elkin's Goalie Schools goalies hanging their heads over the past summers.

Smith's numbers tell the tale of a bounce back season after the Lightning chose not to resign him over the summer. Mike has a 2.19 GAA and a .933 save percentage thus far for the Coyotes. His record is 8-2-3-1.
